Single mom dating diary – how to behave around kids

Being a single mom isn’t easy. Baby care, house chores, money-making – she has to carry everything on her fragile shoulders. And when she meets a man of her dream, she can’t be sure he’ll take the news about her little one with enthusiasm. If you are looking for a woman with a kid, read this week-long single mom dating diary with our commentaries that you might find useful when going on a date with a solo mother.

Day First

He finally asked me out. I don’t know what to do. Should I tell him at once or wait until we get to know each other a little better? What if he hates children? What if it scares him off and he doesn’t want to see me anymore?

Dating tip: If you suppose your date to be a single mom, help her out by bringing the conversation round to kids yourself. But don’t approach her on that subject directly. Start by saying how much you love children and how desperately you want one of your own. Mention that you don’t mind dating single mothers. Hopefully, that encourages her to confess.

Day Second

Luckily, he started the kids talk himself. He said he loves children and doesn’t see dating a single mom as problem. Of course, I told him about my son. He seemed to be ok with it. I guess it’s time to introduce them to each other.

Dating tip: During your first meeting, be friendly and nice to the kid. Don’t push it too hard, though, since you barely know each other. Some children are extremely shy in the presence of strangers, so smiling and talking will generally be enough for the first time. If you see that the kid is willing to get involved in a certain kind of activity, join in.

Day Third

Everything went perfect! We went to a local café and spend a great time talking, laughing and eating ice-cream. My son liked him very much, especially after he helped him win a bear from a claw machine. However, I’ll probably have to reschedule our next date since I have nobody to baby-sit my son that night. Hope he understands.

Dating tip: If a single mom cancels a date because there is no one to fill in for her, suggest taking the kid with you. For instance, you can go to the zoo or amusement park. Dating a man that gets along well with her children and gladly spends time with them is highly important for a single mother.

Day Four

I was rather surprised when he offered to go to the water park together with my son instead of spending a private evening at the restaurant as planned. It was so great! We were bathing, splashing and rolling down the water slide. He taught my son how to swim the crawl. It seems they have fun together. Maybe I’ll invite him over to my place next time.

Dating tip: Coming over for dinner, buy small gifts both for the mother and for the child. You can also grab some sweets. The kid will probably want to show you his room. This is a great opportunity to spend quality time together on his own territory – for example, play with his toys, read him a book or help with homework. But don’t forget about the mom! If you devote to much attention to her little one, she may feel abandoned.

Day Five

He is the most sensitive and attentive man in the world! He bought my son a radio-controlled car and they were playing with it for an hour or so. I’m so happy they found a common language! It’s already late, should I ask him to stay overnight? What if my son hears something?

Dating tip: Making love when there is a child sleeping next door isn’t the best option, especially if this is your first time. It’ll probably be better to do it at your place or while the kid is away.

We hope reading this single mom dating diary helped you better understand the needs and fears of solo mothers and maybe analyze your past mistakes. Of course, this is a demo version of single mom dating – in real life, everything happens on a much slower scale. But the main point remains: relationship between you and her kid is just as important to any woman as relationship between you and herself. So if you want to conquer the heart of a single mom, you will also need to win the heart of her little one.
